Veterans

Each November, Americans pause to recognize the courage, sacrifice, and dedication of the men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces. In Carthage, residents will have several opportunities to come together as a community and express their gratitude to local veterans and their families.

The annual Veterans Day observance will be held at Memorial Hall on Wednesday, November 11. The morning will begin with patriotic music performed by the Heartland Band at 10:30 a.m., followed by the official Veterans Day Program at 11:00 a.m. Community members of all ages are encouraged to attend as we honor the service and sacrifices of our nation's veterans.

Veterans and their families are also invited to enjoy a complimentary lunch hosted by First United Methodist Church from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. following the Veterans Day observance.

The community's recognition of veterans continues on Saturday, November 14, when the annual Veterans Day Parade steps off at 2:00 p.m. on Carthage's Historic Downtown Square. The parade serves as a public show of appreciation for veterans and an opportunity for residents, businesses, civic organizations, churches, schools, and community groups to stand together in support of those who have served.

Veteran-owned businesses, organizations that work with veterans, and groups wishing to show their support are encouraged to participate. Those interested in entering the parade should register by November 6.

Following the parade, the celebration will continue at VFW Post 2590, where food will be served beginning at 4:00 p.m., followed by live music from Loose Cannons at 7:00 p.m.

As we gather this Veterans Day season, let us remember that freedom comes at a cost paid by generations of service members and their families. Whether attending the Veterans Day Program, thanking a veteran personally, or cheering along the parade route, every expression of gratitude helps honor those who have answered the call to serve.
