Carthage Troop 9 has installed a U.S. Flag Retirement Box at the Carthage Fire Department, located at Chestnut and Garrison. Community members are encouraged to place unserviceable flags in the designated box, where they will be collected and retired in accordance with the U.S. Flag Code.
The project was completed as part of an Eagle Scout service effort and provides an ongoing opportunity for residents to ensure their flags are handled with dignity and respect.
Improper disposal of American flags can be avoided by utilizing this secure drop-off location. Troop 9 will oversee the collection and conduct formal retirement ceremonies as needed.
Residents are invited to participate by bringing any worn, torn, or faded flags to the Fire Department and placing them in the retirement box.
The City of Carthage appreciates Troop 9’s commitment to community service and their efforts to promote proper flag etiquette.
