The Carthage Planning, Zoning, and Historic Preservation Commission is proud to announce the launch of an exciting project aimed at preserving and enhancing the community’s rich architectural heritage. Thanks to a generous grant from the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO), Carthage is working with a historic preservation consultant based in Nashville, TN, to develop new and updated Historic Design Guidelines for the town’s historic district.
As part of the project’s public engagement process, residents of the historic district, and the wider Carthage community, are invited to attend a Public Kick-Off meeting Wednesday, June 18, 2025 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at City Hall Council Chambers.
This initial meeting will serve to introduce the Consultant Team to the public, outline the goals and timeline of the project, and begin gathering input from residents and stakeholders regarding the future of the historic guidelines.
The updated Historic Design Guidelines will provide a framework for maintaining the character and integrity of Carthage’s historic district while supporting thoughtful growth and revitalization. Community input will be vital in shaping these guidelines and ensuring they reflect the town’s unique identity and values.
